Special Pilot Training Program - Funded by The Sunshine Lady Foundation and led by NYCCHCD Board Member Dr. Judith Lauterstein - for creating a core of "signing" and/or deaf home health aides in the metropolitan New York area who will be sensitive to the unique linguistic and cultural needs of the deaf community. (2009-2010)
Helping the Deaf Make Informed Decisions about Advance Care Planning - Funded by the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation. A series of presentations to the deaf community about Advance Care Planning, empowering them to complete Advance Directives and assessing the need for culturally and linguistically appropriate communication vehicles for this community. (2005-2006)
"Senior Partners In Health" - Funded by the Project on Death in America of the Open Society Institute. Communicating with your doctor on end-of-life decisions. A Train-the-Trainer program for outreach in the community. Meetings to empower senior citizens to participate actively as informed partners in the doctor-patient decision-making process. (1997-1999)
NYS Partnership to Improve End-of-Life Care – Public Dialogue Project, funded by the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation. A series of forums where citizens are invited to voice their concerns, beliefs, hopes and fears related to end-of-life issues. (1999)
"Strengthening the Process of Health Care Agency: Citizen-to-Citizen," funded by the Fan Fox and Leslie R. Samuels Foundation. This project addresses the issues of the health care agency through the implementation of a health care proxy training program and community education outreach forums. (1999-2001)
